Common questions

How do I make a site always open in a particular Space?

Open the site, then choose Always Open in… from its menu and pick a Space, or another browser. Fireweed also offers a rule after you move the same site to the same Space a few times.

What does the fire button do?

On a page, it burns that tab: the tab closes and the site’s cookies and data are cleared from the Space. On a new tab, it burns the whole Space: its tabs close and its site data goes. Sites you mark fireproof stay signed in either way, and other Spaces are never touched.

How do I open a private tab?

On the Mac, choose File › New Private Tab (⇧⌘N). On iPhone and iPad, choose New Private Tab from the More menu, or hold the + button in the tab view.

Where did the natural voice come from, and how do I remove it?

It is the open-source Kokoro voice, downloaded from Hugging Face when you ask for it, about 300 MB. Remove it in Settings › Reader › Listening; Listen goes back to the system voice.

My Reader library isn’t syncing.

Make sure you are signed in to iCloud on each device and that iCloud is on for Fireweed. Changes can take a minute to arrive.

How do I make Fireweed my default browser?

On the Mac, use the button in Fireweed’s Settings. On iPhone and iPad, Fireweed can be chosen as the default browser once Apple approves it for that.
